EQ: How did Egypt's Old Kingdom develop?
A period known as the Old Kingdom began around 2600 BCE in Egypt, and lasted until around 2300 BCE. Between these years Egypt grew and prospered. The Egyptians set up a strong government and built cities. The Egyptians had God-Kings or Pharaohs, and the Pharaohs lived in palaces with their families. The Pharaoh had control over everything Egypt did and he was obeyed without question. The Egyptians were dependent upon a strong leader therefor they willingly followed the Pharaoh. Pharaohs had many different officials to do as they wished. These officials made sure that crops were planted as the pharaoh directed, and they controlled trade and collected taxes of grain from farmers.
Problem/Solution
The problem in Egypt's Old Kingdom was the fact that Egyptians relied to strongly on Pharaohs. If the Egyptians did not have Pharaohs they would have no structure and Egypt probably would not have been able to do half of the things they accomplished. They relied on the Pharaoh to tell them when to plant and harvest crops. The solution to this problem is for them to have become more independent and to do more things on their own.
